Social Event: German Mining Museum

On Tuesday afternoon, there will be guided tours through the German Mining Museum in Bochum.

The museum, which also acts as a research institution for mining history, attracts around 400,000 visitors each year and is probably the most important mining museum in the world.

Guided tours will be available in both German and English, and will lead you through the museum’s underground visitor mine, containing faithfully reconstructed parts of a real mine. We will also visit the viewing platform on the mine’s headframe, which provides a fantastic view of Bochum and the Ruhr area.

Note: The average temperature in the mine is only 12°C, so dress warmly!

  • Location: Am Bergbaumuseum 28, 44791 Bochum (View on Google Maps)
  • Public transport: The U35 station “Deutsches Bergbau-Museum” is right next to the museum.

Conference Dinner: Strätlingshof

On Tuesday evening, right after the social event, there will be a conference dinner at Strätlingshof.

The restaurant will likely be able to accommodate requests for vegetarian or vegan meals, and possibly others, if they are made before the early registration deadline. Therefore, we ask you to register early if you have any special dietary requirements.

  • Location: Altenbochumer Str. 64, 44803 Bochum (View on Google Maps)
  • Public transport: The tram stop “Freigrafendamm” (serviced by trams 302, 310, and bus line 345) is 500m walking distance from the location. From there, it is only two stops to Bochum main station. Alternatively, the bus stop “Wirmerstr.” (serviced by line 368) is right in front of the Strätlingshof.
